GUWAHATI, Feb 7 - Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said the government has so far declared 18 incentives to promote cashless and more digital means of financial transactions. He said Assam was the first state to come up with such a comprehensive package following demonetisation.
He said the State saw a great opportunity to push for a cashless economy following demonetisation and expressed gratitude to the people of Assam for their discipline and patience to bear with the hardships. He also appreciated the efforts of the banking sector and other stakeholders and the district administrations to bring the situation to near normalcy.
The State government initiated a number of steps following demonetisation, which include putting up of mobile ATMs in hospitals, working with the bankers as a single team, doorstep delivery of cash to pensioners in Guwahati and other towns, opening of more than six lakh bank accounts of tea garden workers, setting up of ATMs in tea garden areas, etc.
