17 chargesheets filed in graft cases

GUWAHATI, March 16 � Investigating agencies today filed 17 chargesheets in connection with as many corruption cases with the Court of Special Court, Assam.

The investigators mostly named government officials against whom prosecution sanctions were pending for long.

Of the 17, while the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed two supplementary chargesheets relating to anomalies in the irrigation and education departments, the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of Assam Police filed 10 of them. The Chief Minister�s Vigilance Wing, too, filed chargesheets in connection with five cases registered with it.

The CID case relating to Irrigation Department misappropriation named Accounts Officer Pranjit Pathak as accused in the charge sheet, while in the Education Department salary scam, the names of Phatik Chadra Doley and Paresh Chandra Neog featured in the charge sheet.

The 10 ACB chargesheets were filed in connection with ACB police station include case number 3/2001 naming BN Patowary and others as accused, ACB PS case number 4/98 (Jitendra Nath Gogoi and others as accused), ACB case number 12/2003( Ngithan Gohain), ACB case number 9/2005 (Monmoth Deka), ACB case number 6/98 ( Bijoylal Basumatary and others), ACB case number 8/2004 (Md Harej Ali and others), ACB case number 5/2000( Ritendra Nath Sarma), ACB case number 3/2003 (M Roy Choudhury and others), ACB case number 4/2000 ( Mohindra Bora and others) and ACB case number 2/98 ( AK Najim Ahmed and others).

The CM Vigilance police station cases in connection of which charge sheets were filed include the CM Vigilance police station case number 2/98 (Biswajit Das and others), CMV ps case number 1/98 (Anisur Rahman and others), CMV ps case number 1/2002 (Mujahid Ali and others), CMV case ps case number 1/2001 (Jayanta Madhab Baruah), and CMV police station case number 2/2010 (Tapan Kumar Roy and others).

The CMV Wing and the CID are due to file two and three more chargesheets respectively.
