167 persons in Sonitpur detected with cancer

TEZPUR, May 27 � Altogether 167 persons in Sonitpur district were detected with cancer in the special camp on early detection of common cancer held on May 25 last at six health institutions in Sonitpur district including Kanaklata Civil Hospital at Tezpur, Biswanath Chariali SDCH, Gohpur SDCH, Dhekiajuli CHC, Chardwar CHC, and North Jamuguri CHC. The mega medical event was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to create an awareness and early detection of common cancer across the State.

The camps in Sonitpur district started at 9.30 am. A team of doctors and para medical staffs were present at the camps where in proper screening of the patients was done for the detection of common cancer.

The campaign designed to help and educate the public about specific preventable cancers such as breast cancer, cervical cancer and oral cancer with an effort to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of cancer through education on symptoms and treatment and to find ways to identify those women most at risk, understanding better how preventive drugs work and find ways to help women making lifestyle changes to lower their risk marked detection of 55 number of patients of oral cancer, 42 patients of cervical cancer, 40 patients of breast cancer and 30 patients from others.
