IMPHAL, Aug 9 � Sixteen distinguished persons of the State were honoured with Manipur State Kala Akademi Awards by the State Governor at the JN Manipur Dance Academy Auditorium at Imphal on Wednesday. The awards were given to those who have excelled in the fields of literature, fine arts, music, dance, theatre, Shumang Leela, Thang-Ta, Pena, Khongjom Parba, etc.
Meanwhile, Thoidingjam Tombi Singh was elected Fellow of Manipur State Kala Akademi in recognition of his tireless efforts for the cause of contemporary art movement. Ningombam Ibobi Singh was also elected Fellow of the Akademi.
Chief Minister O Ibobi, who attended the award distribution ceremony as president, said, �All the awardees are eminent achievers who have taken their respective forms of arts to a new height.
�A healthy culture and tradition serve as a bridge between societies and communities as they bind human beings together,� he maintained.
