By CORRESPONDENT

AGARTALA, Aug 19 - Tripura Government has sought Rs 1,07,714.83 crore from the 15th Finance Commission (FC) to meet the States non-plan expenditure for the five years commencing from 2020-21 FY.

Besides, separate fund was also sought for Tripura Tribal Areas Autnomous District Council (TTAADC) and other self-government bodies including Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Municipal Councils (MCs) and Nagar Panchayats (NPs).

The Cabinet has already cleared the demand and it was forwarded to the 15th Finance Commission, which has already begun working, for consideration, said Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday, he said the State Government has also demanded to increase States share of Central taxes from 42 per cent to 50 per cent.

In the wishlist, the State Government has showed Rs 14,500.07 crore would be collected by the State while Rs 1,07,714 crore will be required for five years from 2020-21 to 2024-25 FY.

Nath said the State Government has sought Rs 17,783.61 crore for State specific sectors and projects while Rs 4,987 crore was demanded for disaster management.

Pointing out that the Centre needs to allocate at least 10 per cent of the total Central tax collection to the NE States, the Minister said Tripura remained deprived during 14th FC period.

Citing how the State was deprived of its due share, Nath said while the percentage of Central tax hike was 26 for Tripura, it was 57 for Meghalaya, 59 for Nagaland, 71 for Mizoram and 318 for Arunachal Pradesh.

He further said the State Government wants GST compensation should be extended to the State beyond five years as the State lacks in revenue collection.

Nath also explained why the State Government has sought Rs 1,07,714.83 crore from 15th Finance Commission. Lack of industry, unemployment, climatic condition, huge reserve forest coverage and hike in transportation cost are major reasons for which we need more fund to run the State, he added.
