14 level-crossing gates closed down by NFR in Rangiya Divn

GUWAHATI, April 19 - The Maligaon-headquartered Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) closed down a total of 14 level-crossing gates in the New Bongaigaon-Goalpara Town-Kamakhya section of Rangiya Division of the zone during the 2016-17 financial year, which ended on March 31.

Another 33 unmanned level-crossing gates were turned into manned gates during the last financial year.

�To ensure safe running of trains, 14 level-crossing gates, including five manned and nine unmanned, were closed in New Bongaigaon-Goalpara Town-Kamakhya section of Rangiya Division. Another 33 unmanned level-crossing gates were also manned during this period in the Division,� said NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) PJ Sharma.

During the last financial year, the Rangiya Division of NFR also reported an increase is passengers as well as earnings.

�The overall performance of the Rangiya Division of NFR has been very commendable. Five pairs of new passenger trains were introduced during this period,� said Sharma. He said the number of passengers originating from Rangiya Division has increased by 5.66 per cent.

�Passenger earnings have also shown an increase of 11.86 per cent in comparison to last year. The earnings from the Goods Section has increased by 8.50 per cent. Other earnings have also increased by 56.90 per cent. Earnings from ticket checking also increased by 28.05 per cent,� Sharma said.

He added that to provide better amenities to the passengers, four PRS-cum-UTS centres were commissioned at Tatibahar, Changsari, Azara and Dudhnoi stations during 2016-17. A total of four foot-overbridges were also commissioned at Khandikar, Goreswar, Khoirabari and Sripani stations in the Rangiya-Rangapara North-Murkongselek section.

�To supply clean drinking water to passengers, iron removal plants were provided at four stations. They include Lilabari, Archipathar, Simen Sapori and Telam stations in the Rangiya-Rangapara North-Murkongselek section,� he said.

The NFR CPRO said that mechanised cleaning of stations is being done at Rangiya, Barpeta Road and Bongaigaon, which are all category �A� stations, as well as in New Bongaigaon, which is a category �B� station, and also at Naharlagun, which is a category �E� station.
