13 ultras surrender in Manipur

IMPHAL, June 1 � Thirteen underground cadres of Zao People�s Army (ZPA) laid down arms before Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) in a surrender ceremony at Assam Rifles headquarters at Mantripukhuri near here today.

The founding president of the armed group Lingkhankhup Zou alias Khupkhan and a lady cadre Veronica were among the surrendered militants.

The weapons surrendered include three pistols, one revolver, one AK 56 rifle, some ammunition and explosive materials besides two wireless sets.

IG CA Krishnan and DGP Manipur Yumnam Joykumar assured that necessary steps would be taken for the rehabilitation of the surrendered cadres.

Meanwhile, 10 Territorial Army soldiers who died in a road accident in Manipur has been given full military honour in a simple function at the battalion headquarter of 12 Maratha Light Infantry at Tulihal airport near here.

The 10 Territorial Army soldiers were killed along with one CRPF jawan in a road mishap at a place between Tupul and Kotlien villages along Jiribam-Imphal sector of the National Highway 53 on Sunday.

Out of the ten TA soldiers, except Havildar KK Dutta of Jorhat (Assam) and Havildar Ram Dutta of Hardoi (Uttar Pradesh), all the eight soldiers are from Manipur.
