12 Manipur ultras surrender with arms

IMPHAL, Sept 28 � Twelve hardcore cadres of a little known militant outfit Pakan Reunification Army (PRA), formally surrendered to the security forces on Tuesday.

The formal surrender ceremony of the militants, organised to get the �misguided youths� back to the mainstream, took place in the presence of DGP Manipur Yumnam Joykumar and Major General CA Krishnan, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) at Mantripukhri, Assam Rifles headquarters on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion the Manipur Police chief Joykumar assured that the government will ensure in providing a way for their future life under the existing surrender policy while Major General Krishnan said that such a large scale surrender by young people will prove to be a beacon for other misguided youths to lay down their arms, abjure violence and return to the mainstream.

The families, children and relatives of the surrendered cadres were also present at the ceremony.

The surrendered cadres also handed over a large quantity of arms, ammunition and other stores including one 7.62mm AK 56 Rifle with magazine, one 7.62 mm G 4 LMG, one Pt 22 Colt Magnum Pistol (Made in USA), one 6.35 mm Star Pistol (Made in Spain), two 9mm Pistol, two flags and ammunition.

Meanwhile, troops of 15 Assam Rifles apprehended one PLA cadre Ningthoukhongjam Sanatomba of Heirok. He was handed over to Thoubal Police Station today.

The troops of 29 Assam Rifles also apprehended a person from a bus coming from Imphal to Moreh. On interrogation he was found to be a Myanmar national of Yangon.
