12-hr Karbi Anglong bandh today

DIPHU, April 19 - Stir against the barbaric killing of Pranab alias Mithu Das is continuing in Karbi Anglong. A 12-hour Karbi Anglong bandh has been called by the Bangali Samaj and Bangali Yuba Chatra Federation on April 20 starting from 5 am in demand of arrest of Pranab Das�s killers.

A press meet was held today at Howraghat by Bangali Samaj and Bangali Yuba Chatra Federation jointly. It may be mentioned here that leaders from 15 different social and student organisations attended the press meet and strongly condemned the killing.

While supporting the 12-hour Karbi Anglong bandh called by the Bangali Samaj and Bangali Yuba Chatra Federation, Anil Hazarika, president, Asomia Bhasik Sanstha, Karbi Anglong district strongly condemned the killing of Pranab Das.

Hazarika demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and compensation for the victim�s family. Addressing the press meet, Manik Das, chief adviser, Bangali Yuba Chatra Federation and Sagar Das, vice president, Ana Karbi Suraksha Mancha demanded a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the victim�s family.

Besides, they warned the culprits not to repeat such incidents in the future. Binand Tokbi, adviser, Karbi Students� Association (KSA), Howraghat regional also condemned the killing and demanded stern punishment against the killers of Pranab Das. Miscreants are miscreants and they must be given stern punishment, Tokbi said.

It may be mentioned here that social and student organisations comprising Bangali Jatiya Manch, Asomia Bhasik Sanstha, All Adivasi Students� Association (AASA), United Students� of Karbi Anglong (USKA), Tiwa Students� Union (TSU), Bangali Aikya Manch, Nepali Students� Association, KSA, Bhujpuri Chatra Sanstha, Ana Karbi Aikya Manch and Karbi Anglong Aikya Manch have extended support to the 12-hour Karbi Anglong bandh.

Pranab alias Mithu Das was brutally killed by a group of hooligans at Dengaon on April 17. Police have already arrested one in connection with the killing.
