GUWAHATI, March 15 � The NF Railway had targeted manning 115 unmanned level crossings over its jurisdiction during 2011-2012 and could achieve the target for the financial year.
In order to reduce accidents at unmanned level crossings, the Ministry of Railways had undertaken an ambitious plan of manning the unmanned level crossings all over India, and the NF Railway�s achievement was in consonance with the Ministry of Railway's policy, an NF Railway release said.
It is to be mentioned that there are 1,008 unmanned level crossings under the jurisdiction of the NF Railway, and all those unmanned level would be manned in a phased manner within five years. Moreover 30 unmanned level crossings have been closed with the active support of the district administration of the districts concerned during this financial year. Already 38 such level crossings have been closed during the year 2010-2011 as against the target of 29, the release added.
