110 cattle heads seized in Dhubri border areas

By Correspondent

DHUBRI, June 2 - In a massive drive along the Indo-Bangla borders of the district, the BSF of Dhubri sector has seized as many as 110 cattle heads that were being smuggled to the neighbouring country.

BSF sources added that the drive was conducted by the 71, 67, 57 and 174 battalions of the security forces on the night of June 1 till June 2 morning on various bordering areas of the district. According to information, the BSF has made the seizure mostly along the borders in the char areas of the district and the cattle heads were about to be sent to Bangladesh.

It may be mentioned here that this is the biggest seizure of cattle by any security agency this year in the district. It was supposed that the demonetisation has curbed cattle smuggling in the district but this seizure again proved that the illegal trade has started again in full swing.

However, BSF sources added that recent cattle smuggling is being carried out with the distribution of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN).

In recent times movements in FICN have also been observed in the borders of the district, said a highly-placed BSF source.
