DIMAPUR, Jan 28 � In a move aimed at providing better security throughout the State Assembly election process in Nagaland, 11 police observers � one for each district, will be deployed in the State.
The police observers will coordinate and monitor the proper functioning and deployment of security personnel in various places, State Chief Electoral Officer J Alam said.
Besides this new addition, the CEO informed that a total of 35 Observers from Election Commission, which include 22 General Observers and 13 Expenditure Observers, would be arriving in the State by January 30. One Special Observer will be stationed in Kohima to coordinate with rest of the Observers.
Preparations for the ensuing Assembly elections scheduled for February 23 are in full swing even as the major political parties are yet to declare their candidates.
A total of 11,92,377 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise. Among them, 6,03,650 are male while 5,88,727 are female. There are 16,322 fresh inclusions in the age group of 18-19 years, which is barely 1.37 per cent of the population.
Informing that a total of 11,59,557 voters have been enrolled in the Photo Electoral Roll (PER), Alam said this takes the coverage to 97.25 per cent.
The CEO said the political parties have to render an account of the election expenditure within 75 days of the election.
The CEO also informed that the total security deployment will be over 31,000 personnel.
