DIBRUGARH, Dec 11 - The 10th Dibrugarh Book Fair organised by Milanjyoti Sangha in collaboration with the All Assam Publishers and Book Sellers Association concluded yesterday. The event was held at the Chowkidinghee ground here.
The ten-day event, which commenced on December 1, was witness to an assembly of eminent writers and authors, poets, journalists and readers. The prominent visitors included senior journalists, noted writers including Dr Puna Mahanta, Dr Ananda Bormudoi, Prof Nagen Saikia, among others. Former Assam DGP Harekrishna Deka earlier inaugurated the book fair on December 1.
Over 70 book stalls were put up by different publishers and sellers in the book fair. Greater Dibrugarh Press Club too put up a book stall by collecting books from various authors, publishers and sellers. The State Bank of India (SBI) had provided a mobile ATM van to ease cash requirement at the venue. It is estimated that the book fair made a business transaction of nearly Rs 75 lakh. The fair also hosted a series of events like book release functions, interaction with litterateurs and poets, talks, health awareness programmes, grantho sayon and cultural programmes. About 50 books were released during the event. Local journalists also put up a book stall.
