105 students ill after taking deworming drugs

AGARTALA, Feb 12 � A total of 105 primary school students fell ill in two districts of Tripura after taking deworming drugs supplied by the government on the National Deworming Day on Tuesday, officials said.

While 67 students of several schools in North Tripura district were affected, 48 children of another school fell ill in Unakoti district after consuming �albendasol� doses.

North Tripura district magistrate Dr SR Rathor said 67 students of Chandrapur class XII school and few other schools fell sick in the school and were admitted to Dharmanagar Subdivisional Hospital.

Condition of two of them was stated to be serious.

Chief Medical Officer of the district, Shankar Das, said an investigation was ordered and the samples of the drugs, water and food distributed in mid-day meal programme are being examined. In Unakoti district, 48 students of Sidang Banapalli SB School fell ill and were admitted to Kumarghat Subdivisional Hospital. They are stated to be out of danger.

On National Deworming Day on February 10, children aged between 1-19 years were administered drugs through government schools and Anganwadi centres. � PTI
