By Staff Correspondent

JORHAT, May 24 - Four relief camps at three schools and one at a Gaon Panchayat office having an auditorium, under the Jorhat West Revenue Circle are housing 2192 people from five villages affected by floods from the Bhogdoi river since Wednesday evening.

The river had breached the Bhogdoi embankment at three areas between Malowkhat and Malowpam on Wednesday evening.

The embankment-cum road of the river too has been damaged at several places after water flowed over it in a huge force, a district administration source said. The source said that food and medicines were being distributed to the people taking shelter in the camps. Rice, dal, salt and wheat were given to the camp inmates.

Altogether about 6000 people under the Jorhat West Revenue Cirle have been hit by the sudden floods.

The source informed that water-level of Bhogdoi in the areas under the Jorhat West Circle was on a receding trend today and is flowing below the danger level.
