10 traders booked for malpractice

ITANAGAR, Sept 27 - Altogether, 10 traders of Pasighat market in East Siang district were booked for violation of various provisions of the Legal Metrology Laws and Packaged Commodity Rules, besides being imposed penalties for their anti-consumer practices.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of district Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs Department led by the Assistant Controller (Legal Metrology) seized a number of crockery items in packaged form from two shopkeepers of Pasighat market for violation of Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each.

The original MRP printed by the manufacturers on the crockery items were found erased and dealer�s own prices stamped in its place. In some packages, unauthorised price stickers were pasted over the original price tags which is against the provisions of Packaged Commodities Rules, 2011, informed the Asstt Controller.

The team also seized a number of non-standard weights and measures from eight fabrication, hardware and grocery shops of Pasighat market for violation of provisions of Legal Metrology Act, 2009.

The LM & CA department informed that, of late, complaints from consumers started pouring into the official e-mail account of the department, [email protected] due to awareness campaigns conducted in the district in the last two years.
