10 sent to judicial custody

SILCHAR, Oct 23 � Ten persons, accused of vandalism during the 12-hour Cachar bandh called by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Cachar district unit, on October 20, have been sent to judicial custody by the CJM Court. It may be mentioned here that magistrate GS Panesar had registered a case against the accused on charges of vandalism, assembly with objectionable articles and intentional creation of chaos in the open under Sections 147/148/149/ 332/336/353 and 427 of the IPC.

Among the accused are Tinku Hazari (35) and Roshan Mazumdar (40) of the Madhurband area, Shahid Ahmed Laskar (40) of Lakhipur Chamragodam, Abir Uddin Laskar (46) of Kanakpur Part II, Abhishek Dey (20) of Radhamadhav Road, Subrata Roy (20) of National Highway, Raju Roy (23) of Padmanagar Bilpar, Munna Rabidas (28) of Kalibari Char, Amit Deb (30) and Ranjit Ghosh (29) of Purnyapal Road and Prasenjit Das (17) of Rongpur Karatigram.

However, among the 11 arrested, one was allowed to go on juvenile grounds. Police said that two others were also arrested, but they were not sent to custody for want of adequate evidence.

ASP (Hqr) Rajveer Singh Rathod said that the bail pleas of the accused were turned down by the court as there was evidence against each of them. The next hearing in the case is slated for October 28.
