JORHAT, March 3 At least 10 people including a woman, were injured during a police-public clash in Dipling area in Sivasagar district today just after Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi made his departure from the place.
The protesters belonging to the Adivasi Chah Janajati Suraksha Samiti, went to meet the Chief Minister to apprise him of their basic problems of infrastructure and livelihood, which were allegedly being ignored by the government for years in their Dipling tea garden that belongs to the ailing Assam Tea Corporation Limited (ATCL).
The clash took place after the security personnel prevented them from entering the premises where the Chief Minister laid a foundation stone for a structure.
The police resorted to lathi-charge to control the agitating mob, leading to serious injuries to 10 protesters on spot. Some of them were admitted to hospitals in Sivasagar, while two were referred to the Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh. A policeman was also injured during the clash, said a police officer in Sivasagar.
