By Correspondent

AGARTALA, March 14 - A day after brawl between the supporters of BJP and Trinamool Congress (TMC), the saffron party today demanded immediate arrest of Sandip Roy Barman, brother of Trinamool Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, for assaulting party activist Jayanta Dey near Aparupa First Food Centre at Akhaura Road on Monday night.

At least 10 persons, including BJP State vice president Subal Bhowmik and three police personnel, were injured in clashes in the heart of the city over affixing a saffron flag. However, all the injured persons were out of danger.

An FIR was filed against Sudip Roy Barman at West Agartala Police Station immediate after the incident that sparked panic amidst Holi festivities.

Addressing a press conference here today, State BJP president Biplab Deb alleged that the police have been shielding the accused person by not arresting him even after lodging of an FIR at West Agartala Police Station.

We want the accused person, Sandip Roy Barman, who had also severely assaulted an Army Major just before the last Assembly elections, must be arrested without any further delay, he said.

Deb also slammed the role of police, especially Additional SP Sharmistha Chakraborty and SDPO Ashok Sinha, for allegedly remaining silent spectators during the brawl.

Our leader Subal Bhowmik and party supporters went to West Agartala Police Station to lodge an FIR against Sandip Roy Barman, son of former Chief Minister Samir Ranjan Barman, immediately after the incident. Unfortunately, they were attacked by Trinamool Congress supporters in the presence of police and TSR, he alleged.

BJP leader Sunil Deodhar, who was also present in the press conference, also came down heavily on the police for allowing violence in the heart of the city.
