10 get bail in APSC scam

GUWAHATI, Aug 31 - The Gauhati High Court today granted bail to 10 persons arrested in connection with the cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission. Those who were granted bail include two suspended members of the APSC, Basanta Kumar Doley and Samedur Rahman.

Most of the arrested persons got default bail as the police could not file the chargesheet against them within the stipulated period of 60 days. However, at the same time, the Court made it clear that all the persons granted bail today can be re-arrested if any additional material is received against them during the course of the investigation.

The Court also laid down several conditions and said that none of the persons who were granted bail today should leave Guwahati without the permission of the special court and they would have to deposit their passports. The persons were asked to cooperate with the process of investigation and to appear before the Special Court or investigating officer whenever called for.

Meanwhile, commenting on today�s judgment, special public prosecutor Bijon Mahajan said that a few of the persons got default bail as the recent law laid down by the Apex Court regarding default bail has been followed by the High Court and regarding the accused persons who have been released on bail on merit and quantum of detention taken into account by the Court.
