AZARA, June 6 � Police today arrested ten dacoits � Awal Mazid (36), Abu Kalam (25), Manik Nal (36), Ziaul Hussain (34), Noor Md (33), Safikul Rehman (24), Ainal Ali (30), Surat Ali (27), Rafikul Islam (36) and Ainul Ali (32) � after they made a bid to commit robbery in the residence of a schoolteacher, Pranab Sarma, at Kahikuchi in the wee hours today.
The teacher who was hit by sharp weapons bravely fought off the dacoits and also managed to inform Azara police which arrived in time and later nabbed the dacoits.
Eight of the dacoits hailed from Dhubri and two from Barpeta. The dacoits are masons by profession, police said.
