1 tests positive for dengue

GUWAHATI, Sept 14 � One person of Assam has been tested positive for the dengue virus and is presently being treated at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Superintendent of GMCH Dr Ramen Talukdar while confirming the development informed that the patient is however stable and all requisite precautionary measures are being taken.

This is the first such case reported at the GMCH this season.

Meanwhile, at least another five persons were said to have tested positive for the dengue virus in the span of last couple of months by the Down Town Hospital authorities and a report had also been sent to the Director of Health Services in this regard.

Dr Manabendra Nayak, senior consultant (medicine), Down Town Hospital, when contacted, informed that he himself had treated five patients inflicted by the vector-borne disease at the hospital though each one of them has been discharged.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told The Assam Tribune that the Government is monitoring the situation closely and there is no need to panic.

He further claimed that the State Government is well-equipped to fight dengue.
