JORABAT, Dec 18 - An angry mob torched a Maruti Alto when a man succumbed to his injuries after being hit by the car on NH-37 at Kahikuchi under Khetri Police Station this morning.
Immediately after the accident a crowd gathered at the spot and besides setting the ill-fated vehicle on fire, tried to manhandle the driver and a woman occupant. The duo were however saved by some persons with the help of the police.
As the vehicle burned in the middle of the road a traffic jam ensued and it continued for two hours. The vehicle was on its way from Mangaldai to Nagaon. The victim, Amruddin Hussain (23) of Khetri, died on the spot. His body has been sent to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
