NORTH LAKHIMPUR, June 9 � One person was killed and another injured when security personnel opened fire on an irate mob at Dejoo Sapori, a northwestern suburb of North Lakhimpur late last evening.
The incident occurred at Dejoo Sapori off the river Ranganadi following an alleged burglary attempt at the construction site of a high voltage cable tower belonging to the Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd. The trouble started when Madan Sarma, an ex-worker of the construction work, entered the construction site and allegedly tried to pick up some iron rods stocked there.
On being challenged by the security personnel, Madan left the place only to return with several people from a nearby village. The mob encircled the construction site of the PCIL tower and began attacking the security personnel, following which the security personnel opened fire, killing Madan Sarma (24).
A young boy, Imran Hussain (13), also sustained bullet injuries in the firing incident.
