1 killed, 2 hurt in Arunachal bridge collapse

ITANAGAR, April 20 - An under-construction RCC bridge over Sibut river near Bodak camp on Pasighat-Mariyang road (TAH) in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh collapsed yesterday killing one labourer on the spot and leaving two others severely injured, a police officer said.

The dead has been identified as Mantu Payeng (35) of Boginadi, Lakhimpur district while the injured were Mafij Ali and Dhaniram Mili, who have been admitted to Pasighat General Hospital. Another labourer, Ranjit Hajong, escaped unhurt, police said.

According to witnesses, the bridge collapsed at around 10.30 am when four labourers were fitting shutters under the RCC structure.

About 20 labourers were engaged in the bridge construction, but most of them were not at the site during the time of incident, police said. The bridge construction work is being executed by JKM Infra Projects Limited. � PTI

Kipgen appointed NPP Manipur chief

Imphal, April 20 - Former Minister Thangminlen Kipgen was today appointed as the Manipur State unit president of the National People�s Party (NPP).

NPP national president Conrad Sangma formally announced the appointment of Kipgen at a party programme.

Conrad said NPP would fight the State Assembly election in the State in 2017 and the Imphal Municipal Corporation poll slated to be held on June 2 next. � PTI
