1 injured in factional clash

DIMAPUR, Dec 14 � One NSCN-K cadre was injured in a factional clash between NSCN-K and NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) at Ghukiye designated camp some 13 kilometres from Zunheboto town this morning.

Sources said the firing between the two NSCN factions began early this morning around 4 am and continued till late morning. Heavily armed NSCN-K cadres, in a bid to raid the designated camp of rival NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) at Ghukiye, surrounded the vicinity of the camp from all sides. Police and the Assam Rifles were not able to intervene due to the exchange of fire.

In another shootout in Kohima, a salesman was seriously injured as suspected underground cadres opened fire on a vehicle near Mohonkhola IOC at around 2:30 pm yesterday.

Sources identified the victim as Khudan Kumar Sahu, a salesman at a vehicle accessories shop. He is reported to have sustained critical bullet injury on the chest and is undergoing treatment at Naga Hospital, Kohima.

The shooters, suspected to be cadres of the NSCN-K, were reportedly in a moving vehicle when they opened fire upon a Maruti A-Star parked near the shop. The victim was purportedly doing some work inside the car.

The miscreants fled towards the southern Angamiarea side after bursting 4-5 pistol shots upon the car and injuring the salesman, sources said.

Meanwhile, strongly condemning the incident, the NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) said that the shooting was targeted at a Naga Army personnel wherein the mechanic tending his car was also injured severely. This is the third attempt on the life of the said personnel, who miraculously escaped from the jaws of death, the MIP of the NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) said in a press release.
