1 held for cyber crime

GUWAHATI, Jan 10 � Amit Sanyal, regional manager of a Siliguri-based pharmaceutical company was arrested today by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on charges of sending threatening e-mails and vulgar messages to a lecturer of the Bengali department of Cotton College.

The lecturer filed a case with the CID in October, 2010 and accordingly, a case (51/2010) was registered under section 66-A of Information Technology Act. The accused, according to CID, also created a fake Orkut account in the name of the lecturer and posted vulgar photographs and messages on the social networking site. According to the CID sources, Sanyal was offended with the lecturer as he didn�t like his wife, a student of the Bengali department of Cotton College, having an amicable relationship with her teacher. He also circulated the mails and messages among other teachers of the college.

�For past three months, Sanyal was staying in Hong Kong. He was arrested from Pandu area of Guwahati as he came to visit one of his relatives. Police also seized his laptop and data card. During questioning, he admitted his crime,� CID sources said.
